Here's the obligatory bit of info about myself.
Player was the first program I wrote for the Windows platform, and the first
piece of software I ever released. I've always been interested in programming,
and rather than let my copy of Microsoft Visual C++ 6 go to waste, I bought a
bumper book of C++ and got stuck in. After about six months of learning and
development time, the first version of the program was released early 2000.
Five years and numerous updates later, it still seems to be working,
in spite of the state of some of my old code.
VUPlayer was next up on the development line. I originally wanted something to
play my old Amiga music, but the program has since gone on to support many
more formats, and when I finally added CD support it felt like I had come full circle.
The program now contains over 35,000 lines of code, although I've tried to keep
things as lightweight as possible, following standard Windows design guidelines.
I don't understand the appeal of skinned interfaces, so I've never been tempted
to go down that route, which is lucky, because I'm not a graphic designer. Maybe
I'm just behind the times, as I'm still using a crusty old IBM mouse & keyboard,
and I also seem to be the only person in the UK who doesn't own a mobile phone.
These two applications keep me fairly busy, although I've occasionally released
other bits and pieces of software. The website has recently been given a bit of
a refresh, partly as an excuse to learn some CSS,
PHP and MySQL, and partly
because it hadn't changed since the original launch back in 2002. I also took the
opportunity to sprinkle some Paypal donation buttons liberally about the site, so
if you're feeling in generous mood, all contributions will be gratefully received.
Please feel free to send me any feedback about the site or my programs,
whether it's a bug report, a feature request or just general stuff,
you can contact me via the forum
or by email.
